A New Song

A New Song

“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God; many shall see it and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”

Psalm 40:3 KJV

King David rejoiced in the fact that the Lord had delivered him from difficult circumstances.  Because of that, his heart was overflowing with joy, praise, and thanksgiving unto the Lord!   Throughout David’s life, he had experienced the faithfulness of God on numerous occasions.  On many of those occasions, David would write a song unto the Lord as a means of expressing his gratitude.  Many of those songs would later be sung in the Temple worship in Jerusalem.   Many of them have become a part of The Word of God.  Many of the Psalms (songs) in the Bible were written by David.  The fact they wound up as scripture points to the Divine Inspiration of those songs!

Whenever we experience the Lord’s deliverance or provision in the midst of seemingly impossible circumstances, it should motivate us to want to offer praise and adoration unto the Holy One for His goodness and His faithfulness in our lives.   Joy and thanksgiving flow from the heart, the inner core of our being, and manifests itself outwardly.  Sometimes that manifestation is a shout of joy.  Sometimes it is a song sung with great passion.  Sometimes it is simply kneeling before the Lord with uplifted hands.  Sometimes it is prostrating ourselves before the Lord with tears of gratitude.  Whatever expression that joy takes it produces light in our countenance and puts a smile on our face.  Others can see this joy.  And it encourages them to want to hear about what the Lord has done for us!  It opens the door to conversation about the reality of God!

So let us sing our “new song” unto the Lord!  The song is new because the Lord’s deliverance today is different from His deliverance previously.   And we have a new opportunity to express our joy unto Him!  So let us sing our new song and rejoice in our God for He is worthy of our praise!

Being Thankful

Being Thankful

“O give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.” (Psalm 105:1 KJV).

As we witness the continuing decline of our great nation and the corruption  of  our once reliable and dependable institutions it is easy to become angry,  discouraged and skeptical.  It is easy to get caught up in the negative and to  forget to be thankful for that that we still have.   In spite of all the evil that is happening we still have much for which to be thankful.

We can be thankful that in spite of the fact that our freedoms are under assault, we still have more freedom than 90% of the rest of the world.  We can be thankful that we live in America instead if Cuba, Venezuela, Zimbabwe  or North Korea.    We can be thankful that in spite of inflation, most of us can still feed our families.  We can be thankful that there is an abundance of jobs for those who want to work.

We can be thankful that we can still speak our mind without fear of government repression.  Business and various elements of society  may seek to cancel us or attack us, but we can still speak the truth in love whether it is accepted or not.  We can be thankful that we still have the freedom to assemble to worship God without fear of persecution.   We can be thankful that it is not illegal to own a Bible or to read it.
We can be thankful that it is not illegal to share our faith.

We can be thankful that the majority of us own an automobile.  We can drive to where we need to go.  We can be thankful that the majority of us have a roof over our head.
We can be thankful for the faithfulness of God.  And most importantly we can be thankful for our great salvation.  One of the hallmarks of God’s people is thankfulness.  May we above all people live before an unbelieving world with a grateful heart!  We have much for which to be thankful!

Living a Life of Praise

Living a Life of Praise

In Psalm 34:1 David said: “I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” David understood the importance of praising the Lord on a continuing basis. Praise is a form of worship and can be carried out in our daily life. Praise is acknowledging the Lord for who He is! Praise is recognizing the Lord for what He has done for us!

A life of praise must be cultivated. It is an act of the will. We choose to praise the Lord. Praise is not a feeling. It can and should involve our feelings, but even when we do not “feel” like praising the Lord, we can still praise Him!

The Word of God is filled with passages that declare and demonstrate genuine praise to the Lord. If you cannot think of anything to say, just pick one of the many passages of scripture (particularly in the Psalms) and make that your own expression of praise to the Lord. Pick any number of verses in the Psalms and speak them back to the Lord in praise. Make the words of scripture your own words! You will find that in doing this your heart will be filled with joy!

Praise invites the Presence of God (Psalm 22:3) to dwell in the midst of where we are! The Lord will always respond to a heart that genuinely praises Him!
